hello , i tried this endlessly for 2-3 days and then realised that you really are better off just accepting that you cannot kill kuunavang until the final battle in the arena.
Just take a balanced team , 2 monks, 2 eles <-- definately needed, 2 warriors, mesmer, necro mm.
We have now done this mission bonus about 5 times in a row now with this team makeup, you must obviously fight your way thru the inflicted, i being the team mesmer am constantly using backfire and interrupts on the monks and casters while the rest of the team also targets my calls.
we mostly ignore the kuunavang and only damage him enuff to open the next gate,we keep moving all the time and keep well away from the spores and stuff he drops.

We also try and stay well away from each other as the chain lightning can devastate your team very quickly,once we have the afflicted all dead we then attack kuunavang and take him down to 25% health this is when the arena battle starts, when it comes to the final battle we all run to the far right and far left hand side next to kuunavang but away from the spore things he fires towards where you have just spawned.

Our eles then run directly behind kuunavang and keep dropping heavy hot crap all over his head while im using clumsiness and backfire on him, he never lasts more than about 20-30 secs if you do it right and we take next to no damage.
we will gladly help anyone complete this mission if they give us a shout.

I did at last, now I understand that the hard thing was dragon scales. Usually party dont leave them behind fight them.

Did this mission about 10 times. Failed 5 times (with FULL realplayer team). Made it 5 times. 3 times with hench only, 1 time with full realplayer team, 1 time with one other player and 14 hench.

My advice (as for most of the missions). Do this mission with hench only

and pray no other team will join so you end up with 15 hench. They'll rule this mission for you....

It's when Kuunavang's health drops to a certain point that the cutscene is triggered and you're teleported to the final round. It is indeed quite impossible to kill him prior to that.

Here's me with my 14 hench; although I'm pretty sure most of the second team was already dead. I had hoped I took screens with my sin to also counter the belief that they're weak; but seems I only did with my warr.
